What a pleasure to see everyone enjoying a good day out at Walesby, or so it would seem from the lack of complaints and from a number of thank-yous from departing competitors. The facilities at The Camp are excellent for an event of this type, and the staff tried hard to make us welcome, the tea & coffee stall was laid on by the camp staff and from the brief period that I manned it was well used as runners and parents came in for a warm. The soup and mince pies provided by the Club were also appreciated by competitors, and helped to create a very sociable atmosphere in the Hut.

Peter's first planned event went very well, and I would particularly like to thank him for providing entertaining courses, and Hilary for controlling, especially for completing well before the 10.30 am deadline.

Michael Napier's registration and results system again proved excellent, so thanks Michael for the service, and many thanks to the team leaders and helpers for making my job on the day very easy and straightforward. Thank you to Pauline Olivant for organising the Scout event so efficiently to run alongside the Club event, and thanks to all the competitors and parents who turned up to support the event.

My only complaint is that one or two people ran with dogs despite the event flyer mentioning no dogs except in car park, and LOTS of notices around the car park saying "No dogs beyond this point". This could jeopardise our future use of the site !

Well done to Peter, a first time planner, for devising courses which gave everyone on the harder courses twists and turns to try to keep you concentrating in a technically easy area. I went to some places I hadn't seen before and especially memorable was the eerie world of the frozen marsh with the skeleton trees in the north - very spooky in the early light at 7.50am!

This was a 'first' for NOC in using the 'condes' programme - thanks to David Olivant for his help with the computer side of the planner/controllers jobs and to him and Pauline for their work updating the map. You may have some lacerations from the brambles (I have) but the area south of the road is now unusable.

Thanks also to Steve Wright and to all the NOC helpers. Merry Christmas to everyone and best wishes for successful and enjoyable orienteering in the New Year.
